Ant-Man & The Wasp Set Photos May Reveal Janet van Dyne’s Fate

Warning: This article may contain potential SPOILERS for Ant-Man & The Wasp

A new look at Michelle Pfeiffer’s Janet van Dyne in Ant-Man & The Wasp may reveal a spoiler about the original Wasp. Even though Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne didn’t get the chance to suit up in Ant-Man, the Wasp name will be a big part of the sequel. Lilly will be the first female Marvel hero to get co-billed in the title, but she won’t even be the only Wasp in the sequel. The first film had plenty of teases showing why Hope was ready to be a superhero, but it also teased what happened to her mother – to be played by Michelle Pfeiffer – quite a few times.

As explained in Ant-Man, Janet adjusted her regulator to go sub-atomic and diffuse a nuclear missile, but while she saved the day, she was lost in the Quantum Realm ever since. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) had all but given up on trying to rescue her until Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) returned miraculously. The search for Janet figures to be a big part of the sequel, and new set photos appear to reveal her fate.

Daily Mail released photos from the set in Hawaii where production went during its final days. The final set photos from Ant-Man & The Wasp show Hank and Janet walking along the beach, presumably after she has returned. The surprising and possible spoiler aspect of these photos isn’t that Janet is eventually rescued, but that she is much older. Pfeiffer can be seen in the following photos with light grey hair.

Original Wasp Ant Man & The Wasp Set Photos May Reveal Janet van Dynes Fate

Considering this was one of the final scenes shot for Ant-Man & The Wasp, Janet’s chances of making it out of the sequel look pretty good. This isn’t shocking as it’d be really unfortunate to see a founding member of the Avengers in the comics brought in and thrown away in a single film. What is rather surprising is knowing that she has aged. It has been explained that in the MCU, time is irrelevant when in the Quantum Realm. Janet’s silver locks are a clear signal that is not the case, meaning there is still much to learn about the Quantum Realm.

The good news is, letting Janet age naturally even while stuck in the Quantum Realm will allow her and Hank to be close in age. It would be rather uncomfortable if Janet was still in her 20s or 30s and Marvel aged Pfeiffer down to play the part while continuing on the romantic story between the original Ant-Man and Wasp. There is no need for that concern now, but we will still see a few scenes with a younger Janet too. Hopefully, there is more to her story however then just flashbacks and a last second rescue.
